The History
Although the ancient Egyptians wore a bridal ring on the third finger of the left hand, it was not until the 15th century that the diamond was first recorded as a brial jewel.
This was in 1477, when the Archduke Maximilian of Austria ordered two rings for his bride-to-be, mary of Burgundy. One was a diamonds engagement ring; the other a wedding band of gold.
For centuries, diamond engagement rings were limited to brides-to-be of the aristocracy because of their rarity. However, in 1870, vast diamond deposits were deicovered, and for the first time diamonds became available to brides the world over.
It is fitting that the purest and most brilliant stones should also be the most enduring. the qualities make a diamond the perfect symbol of engagement.
there are four points to remember when choosing a diamond: clarity, color, carat weight, and cut. It is the degree of quality in each of these areas that determines the price of the diamond.
